What WordPress needs and what LXI Free brings
According to wordpress.org, WordPress recommends PHP 8.3 or newer, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.6 or newer, and HTTPS. Free LXI web hosting meets these recommendations with PHP 8.3, MariaDB 10.11, and automatically issued SSL certificates.
Also included are 5 GB web space, unlimited traffic, phpMyAdmin for the database, a file manager in the browser, cron jobs, and backups you can create and restore yourself.
Install WordPress in four steps
- Account and address: Register free and choose an address, e.g. yourblog.lxi.be.
- Confirm email: LXI then sets up your web hosting automatically.
- Open installer: In the customer center, open the control panel and select WordPress under web apps. The installer creates database and credentials.
- Get started: Log in at yourblog.lxi.be/wp-admin, choose a theme, and write your first post.
Instead of WordPress, you can also set up ClassicPress in the same installer, a lean variant with classic editor.
Run WordPress securely
- Update: Keep WordPress, themes, and plugins up to date. Most attacks exploit known vulnerabilities in outdated extensions.
- Few plugins: Install only what you need and remove unused plugins completely.
- Strong credentials: Use a long, unique password for the admin account and no username like “admin”.
- Backups: Create a backup in the control panel before major changes and also keep important content yourself.
Is 5 GB enough for WordPress?
A WordPress installation itself needs only a small part of it. Images and media take up most space. For a blog, club site, or portfolio, 5 GB is usually enough for a long time, especially if you reduce photos before uploading. If it gets tight, switch to Pro with 50 GB for €9.99 per month. The new storage is then available automatically.
WordPress or website with AI?
WordPress is ideal if you maintain content yourself on an ongoing basis and want to use themes and plugins. If you need a custom page or web app, LXI Maker can build it from your description, without theme search and without plugins. Both run on the same free web hosting.

Can I install my own themes and plugins?
Yes. It is a normal, self-hosted WordPress installation. You install themes and plugins as usual in the WordPress backend.
Which PHP version and database run?
PHP 8.3 and MariaDB 10.11, a MySQL-compatible database. This meets the current WordPress recommendations.
Can I use my own domain for WordPress?
Yes. Register the domain with LXI; web hosting for it is included in the Free plan. Domains from other providers cannot yet be connected directly.
Will LXI advertising appear on my blog?
No. LXI shows neither advertising nor third-party links on your website.
Is there FTP or SFTP?
Currently you upload files via the file manager in the browser; you unpack ZIP archives directly there. You install themes and plugins as usual in WordPress. FTP and SFTP are not yet enabled.
